PURPOSE: The board serves as an advisor to the Common Council's Public Safety Committee in matters regarding the issuance, renewal, suspension, revocation and reinstatement of certificates for ambulance service providers participating in the City's emergency medical services system. Further, consistent with s. 75-15-13 of the Milwaukee Code of Ordinances, the board assists in the development of service plans.
The board may develop appropriate rules, regulations and procedures for the safe operation of the emergency medical service system subject to Common Council approval. The board is also authorized to develop, implement and amend as necessary, in the sole judgment and discretion of the board, a handbook of operations for the system.
COMPOSITION: Eight members: Member of the Public Safety Committee appointed by the President of the Common Council; the Commissioner of the Department of Health; a public member appointed by the Mayor and confirmed by the Common Council; the City's Homeland Security Director; the City's Emergency Services Director; representatives of two of the following four hospital systems (Wheaton/Franciscan, Aurora, Columbia/St. Mary's, and Froedtert) appointed on a rotating basis, and a designee of the Milwaukee County Medical Society's Emergency Medical Services Committee.
The public member serves a term coterminus with that of the Mayor. A member who is not an elected official continues to serve after the completion of his or her term until reappointed or until a successor has been appointed.
